Mooncakes are a delicacy during the Mid-Autumn Festival occasion. The festival is for lunar worship and moon watching. I am told that the Mid-Autumn Festival is one of the four most important Chinese festivals, along with Chinese New Year, Qingming Festival, and the Dragon Boat Festival.
The Mid-Autumn Festival is actually on September 12th (15th day of 8th lunar month), but my lovely babysitter was kind enough to think of us today and brought one for us to try early. I felt a little bad that she was bringing me food, because she is Muslim and currently fasting for Ramadan from dusk to sunset. I don't know that I could go all day without eating or drinking anything. Talk about will power!
Anyway, back to the Chinese...there are different varieties of Mooncake. This particular one was called White Lotus and had an egg yolk in the center.
